Brebeuf packs the student section during last week’s loss to Bishop Chatard. Although last night’s game featured temperatures creeping into the high-90s, many fans still returned in similar magnitude.

After a tough loss against cross-town rivals Bishop Chatard last Friday, the Braves bounced back with a big win against Tri-West, winning 34-17. The Braves took a 7-0 lead quickly in the first and after Tri-West responded with a field goal, Javawn Brooks ‘24 returned the kick-off for a touchdown to answer right back. After another stop, the Braves continued to expand upon their lead with Maverick Geske ‘25 throwing his second passing touchdown of the game. Geske went 13 for 21 with 154 yards, 3 touchdowns, and 2 interceptions on Brebeuf’s road to victory.

On another note, kicker/punter Quinn Warren ‘24 has had a great start to the year and had a spectacular game in an interesting way. At the end of the first quarter, Warren attempted an onside kick, recovered it himself, and then had it promptly stolen away by the refs, who determined that he hadn’t let it cross the required 10 yards. Nevertheless, later in the game Warren got to attempt it again, and once more he was able to successfully kick it beautifully and recover it himself, this time without any flags. The Braves’ special teams showed up huge with not only the aforementioned kick return touchdown and onside kick success but also with Taylor Clark ‘25 returning a punt for a touchdown. Overall, Brebeuf played great and an all-around team effort led to a gratifying victory for the Braves.

This win was certainly aided by the many Brebeuf students who “Braved” the heat and showed up big to support the football team. That support always makes the games more enjoyable and helps the team out immensely. Brebeuf hopes to keep the train rolling with the next game being an away game at Mishawaka Marian on September 1st at 7 PM.
