This story all started when news came out that Travis Kelce wanted to meet with Taylor Swift after attending her Era’s Tour Concert. He even mentioned on his podcast, “New Heights,” which he hosts with his brother, Jason Kelce, that he wanted to give her a friendship bracelet with his number on it. Friendship bracelets are commonly passed around between fans at the Era’s Concert, but Kelce made one specifically for Taylor. However, Swift did not meet with Kelce as she claimed she needed to save her voice for her next 44-song concert.
Even after Kelce was turned down by Swift, he did not give up. He extended an invite for Taylor to come to a Chief’s game, repeating the invitation when he made an appearance on The Pat McAfee Show: “I told her that I’ve seen her rock a stage in Arrowhead and she might have to come see me rock the stage at Arrowhead.”
This invitation seemed to work. During the game on the 24th, Taylor Swift was seen sitting in his suite with Kelce’s mother, decked out in red and white. Swift was even seen jumping up and down, celebrating a 3rd quarter touchdown made by Kelce.
The impacts of Taylor Swift’s attendance at the game have been monumental, even making changes to the American economy. First, sales of Kelce’s Kansas City Chiefs jersey increased nearly 400% days after Swift appeared at the September 24th game. On top of that, prices for tickets to the Chief’s next game against the New York Jets rose 43%, as fans were hoping to see Swift at this game too.
Fans were right, as Swift made another appearance. However, this time she brought an even bigger fan section attending with Blake Lively, Ryan Renolds, Sophie Turner, and Hugh Jackman.
Taylor has continued to raise popularity for the NFL. By attending the first Chiefs game on the 24th, she brought in 24.3 million viewers making it the most-watched telecast of the week. When she came to the Chiefs vs. Jets game, she brought in an even bigger audience, making it the most watched Sunday game since Super Bowl LVII in February.
More specifically, Nielsen Fast National Figures shows that teen girl watchers spiked 53%. Rates of women watchers from 18-24 increased 24% and women over 35 increased 34%. In total, the amount of female NFL watchers increased by two million.
Taylor Swift attended yet another Chiefs game on October 22nd. She was spotted in the Mahomes’ suite, accompanied by Brittany Mahomes, wife of Patrick Mahomes. After a touchdown, Brittany and Taylor were seen doing a handshake in the suite, showing that they have become close over the past few months.
Besides being spotted at football games, Swift and Kelce have been spotted holding hands and driving away together in the “getaway car” after several Chiefs wins.
