Our definition of prom in 2024 is a lot different than that of 20 years ago; rather than just going to a dance in a school gym for 3 hours, prom now consists of three major parts: a pre-prom, an elaborate dance, and a post-prom. The real question is, which one of these events remains the highlight of Brebeuf’s prom night?

Pre-prom, which usually starts about an hour or two before the dance, is a fun time for friends and families to meet up and take pictures of the prom attendees. Usually, these events have food and treats for their guests, and make up a pretty large group of people. The largest junior pre-prom that was hosted this year was by Caroline Held ‘25.

Held says “I really enjoyed throwing pre-prom for all of my friends and classmates. It was nice that we could all get together before the dance, especially to get good pictures.”

Hirschfeld said that her favorite part of her prom night was pre-prom, saying, “I really enjoyed it because I got to see all my friends and their parents. It was also really fun to get pictures with all my friends dressed up.”

Pre-prom seemed to be the most popular pick for the favorite part of the evening, as Jake Skinner ‘25 also said, “My favorite part of prom was pre-prom because it was nice to see everyone’s outfits. It was also fun to take pictures and meet up with my group of friends before going to the dance”.

Next up was the prom dance, which this year took place at Fountain Square Theatre in downtown Indianapolis. The dance has been at Fountain Square for the past two years for Brebeuf, and prom attendees have really enjoyed their time there.

Reese Feldman ‘26 said, “I had such a great time dancing with friends at the prom. The DJ was really good, and I had a great time on the dance floor. It was definitely a highlight of my night”.

Prom events include raffles awarded to those who stay the entire night, casino tables where attendees can play games like roulette and poker, and of course, a large dance floor.

Some of the raffle prizes this year included an Xbox Series X, an Apple Watch, and gift cards from places like Chick-fil-A and LuluLemon. Winners were announced throughout the night, however, attendees had to still be at the venue to claim their prize.

After everyone is danced out for the evening, a post-prom party usually takes place. This year, a lot of students reported problems trying to find a “good party,” mainly because not many people wanted to host.

However, even with a lack of a big prom bash, prom attendees still had their fun after the prom dance. Jacob Strickland ‘25 went to a friend’s house with 30 other people after the dance.

“Post-prom was my favorite part of the night because I was just hanging out with my friends. After a long night, it’s nice to just chill with my good friends and enjoy being together.”

Whether your favorite part of the night is the pre-prom rituals, the prom dance, or the after-prom party, the events of this 2024 prom season lived up to the expectations, and students can not wait for next year.
