In the fourth year of its existence, the Math Club is thriving more than ever with over 40 members involved.
This year, the Math Club officers hope to form a tight-knit community of Brebeuf students who are interested in math and have a passion for problem-solving.
The club also provides SAT and ACT math skills and practice questions to students through discussions over problems and other learning opportunities.
“The main focus of Math Club is to provide an environment for students who love math and want to find other like-minded individuals to spend time with,” says Avi Maun ’25, president of the club this year.
Multiple club members echoed similar hopes of their involvement in Math Club: that they could learn to problem-solve with students who enjoy math. They also want to learn to excel in the supportive environment that the club creates.
Beyond the encouraging climate of the club, the Catholic Math League (CML) practices are another key feature that club members appreciate. The CML is a competitive math test administered at Catholic high schools across the country.
The club often hosts CML practices with discussions over difficult math questions and various quick ways to solve a seemingly challenging problem. Brebeuf students repeatedly excel at this test, competing against some of the highest-scoring schools in the country.
A facet of the club that draws other members in is that it is a sanctuary that promotes productivity. Even if you are completing a task as simple as your math homework, there are students around you who can offer advice on a problem or some sort of explanation.
Overall, the community that Math Club creates is one that all students can appreciate and benefit from, whether you have a passion for math or just want to do your homework.
If you are interested in joining the Math Club, come to weekly meetings in room 124 during the first PRT on Mondays.
