As the college application process commences, the Brebeuf College Counseling department has prepared a series of meetings, events, and more to keep seniors well-informed as they begin this new chapter of their lives. Next up is Brebeuf’s Evening with Colleges on Tuesday, September 1oth. Students and their families are welcome to attend to get the chance to speak with representatives from over 40 colleges across the country.
I spoke with Mrs. Newman, one of Brebeuf’s College Counselors working to arrange the event. She discussed the detailed itinerary for the night: “The schedule consists of three information sessions and two browsing periods. During the information sessions, students and families will be able to listen to three different college representatives present on their colleges. During the browsing periods, students and families will be able to meet briefly with college representatives and pick up college materials.”
Seeing as many colleges look to accept students with great interest in their school, attending the Evening with Colleges is a fantastic opportunity to introduce yourself to college representatives and establish said interest. “This is an exceptional opportunity to learn about multiple colleges in one evening and meet with regional college admission representatives who will likely serve as the first reader of a Brebeuf student’s application.”
The college counselors also took great care to ensure that several top 5o schools were represented at the Evening of Colleges, giving students a much-appreciated glimpse at some of their dream schools. Some colleges that will be in attendance include the University of Notre Dame, Vanderbilt, University of Michigan, Washington University in St. Louis, University of Chicago, and Syracuse University. As for some safety schools, a survey of some seniors revealed that they are excited to hear from Purdue University, Indiana University, Ball State, and the University of Cincinnati.
For students interested in volunteering at the event, Mrs. Newman reached out to the National Honor Society members of the Class of 2025 to help find greeters for the night. These students will meet representatives as they enter the building and lead them to their respective classrooms, getting extra one-on-one time to make themselves known. Ini Odelowo ‘25, a senior serving as a greeter on Tuesday, said, “Meeting reps can help me create more connections with the colleges I am interested in. I can also learn more about culture and student life on the campus, solidifying my interest in that college.”
For students who are unable to attend, don’t stress yourself out over it. The Evening with Colleges is a great chance for students to connect with representatives, but you can also visit so many others coming to Brebeuf in the coming weeks! Be sure to listen during the announcements to hear which classrooms will be hosting representatives during the PRTs.
It takes great effort to prepare for an event of this level, and our College Counseling department’s hard work does not go unnoticed. Be sure to visit Mrs. Newman, Mrs. Lawson, Mrs. Wolfe, Mrs. Roberts, Mrs. Davis, or Mrs. Easterday with more questions!
