This Indiana Fever season will be remembered forever as the inaugural season for superstar Caitlin Clark. While there were other notable events, such as the Fever finally ending their WNBA-record playoff drought, Clark dominated the spotlight for much of the year.
Though Clark is immensely popular, it was her talents on the court that made this season so historic. She set 27 records and achieved numerous milestones. Among her most significant achievements were being named to the All-WNBA First Team, scoring the most points ever by a guard in a single season, and setting rookie records for both total points and assists.
While her record-breaking pace may slow down, the Fever hope their winning won’t. The team finished the season at .500, with an equal number of wins and losses, but there’s a lot of optimism for the future. In fact, the team went 9-5 after the Olympic break, showing growth with the extra time together. Although they lost immediately in the playoffs, as this young team gains experience, those issues are expected to resolve themselves.
This success wasn’t only due to Clark. Aliyah Boston and Kelsey Mitchell also had outstanding seasons, with both earning All-Star selections. Mitchell, in particular, stood out, winning All-Star Game MVP and setting career highs in both points and efficiency.
No matter where the Fever go from here, the 2024 season will be enshrined in WNBA history. Clark has brought tremendous popularity in the league, and her talent will continue to win over fans. The future is bright for the Indiana Fever.
