The Brebeuf girls basketball team is in full swing, energized and determined to build on the success of last season. After a strong performance last year, the team is eager to keep their winning streak alive and continue making strides on the court this season.
So far, the team has showcased their resilience and skill with a stable start, holding a positive overall winning record of 8-7. The varsity team has been battling hard, delivering some exciting moments for fans. While they’ve faced tough competition, including close games against rivals like Cathedral and Avon, the players remain optimistic about keeping the record strong in the upcoming matchups. With each game, the team demonstrates their ability to adapt and grow stronger together.
The team recently won the Christmas tournament that was hosted on December 28th, 2024. They carried a win over both Harrison and Marquette Catholic to win the bracket.
Breaking down their performance so far, Brebeuf holds a strong 6-3 record in home games but has fared better on the road with a 2-4 record in away games.
Senior Savannah Schafer ‘25 expressed confidence in the team’s potential, emphasizing the importance of maintaining focus and consistency in the weeks ahead. “We’ve had some challenges early on, but this team has the heart and drive to keep pushing forward,” she said.
Senior leadership has been a key factor in the team’s success. Elise O’Neil, one of the four seniors on the team, is optimistic about the rest of the season. “I am looking forward to winning more games this season and having a good time with my teammates,” she shared.
O’Neil ‘25, along with her fellow seniors, has been key in guiding the younger players and fostering a sense of unity both on and off the court. Their leadership will continue to play an important role as the team navigates the rest of the season.
The girls basketball team has also shown incredible spirit that has earned them the support of the Brebeuf community. Fans and students have rallied behind the players, cheering them on at every game. The energy in the stands has been electric, especially during the nail-biting matches against Cathedral and Avon, where every possession mattered.
Looking ahead, the team is preparing for a challenging lineup of games in the next few weeks as they are approaching their sectional playoffs. Their regular season is expected to come to an end towards the end of January. Some upcoming rivals include Roncalli, Heritage Christian, Tri-West, and North Central. . As they continue to refine their strategies and build their team chemistry, there’s a sense of excitement about what’s to come.
With a talented roster, experienced leadership, and a passionate community behind them, the team is determined to make this season one to remember.
