“I get inspiration from all around me. One of my favorite things to explore through film is people’s differences,” said junior Izzy Hackett regarding her cinematic projects. Hackett is fascinated by the fact that no two lives are the same, and she uses her art to explore that idea here at Brebeuf and even once in New York City.

Hackett started exploring filmmaking when she was accepted into a camp in New York City at the New York Film academy. At first, she did not think she was going to make it into the camp, but they accepted her application, and she “decided to go because [she] knew it was a great opportunity.”

While taking advantage of the great opportunity to work at the New York Film Academy, Hackett produced her first project: a short video in Central Park. She has also been working on a documentary about the lives and emotions of several Brebeuf juniors over the course of the school year. The subjects of this project are Nikhil Jain, Marcy Hiller, Jackie Knobelsdorf, and Noah Torres.

Hackett commonly uses an EO5 Rebel T3i to record video, and when shooting clips of other people she uses wireless microphones that she can attach to her camera. However, her tools are not limited to just that. “I really try to use anything that is available to me and anything that can make the quality of my videos better,” Hackett said.

Hackett definitely wants to study film in college because she believes that “film is a magnificent art form that is and will continue to change the world, and I would love to be a part of that.” Right now, Hackett doesn’t have many specific goals regarding her work except to finish what she is currently working on and hope that “those videos will be good enough to put in portfolio for [her] film school audition.”

Hackett shared that if anyone has anything they want filmed or photographed or simply has an idea to share, she would be open to collaboration.
