As the school year continues, one of the most beloved and anticipated traditions of high school returns. Homecoming is a time for students, teachers, alumni, and the whole Brebeuf community to unite in their school pride.
Homecoming week is filled with entertaining activities such as daily pep rallies and dress-up days. Students take joy in showing their spirit with costumes and themed outfits.
Homecoming is such a unique experience because the whole week is planned by the Brebeuf Student Council, Executive Council, and Spirit Committee.
This year’s themes include Pajama Day, Barbecue Dad vs. Soccer Mom, Character Day, Class Colors, and finally U.S.A. So far, students have shown up and showed out.
Pep Rallies are also a highlight of Homecoming week. Each day of the week during second PRT, students show off their enthusiasm and arouse their classmates.
Many look forward to the lip-sync battle that always takes place at the Friday pep rally. Each grade deliberately choreographs and plans its dances to impress the judges.
L.J. Leising, a senior at Brebeuf, is on both the Spirit Committee and Executive Council. She encourages all students, especially freshmen, to go all out. She says, “Students should expect greatness, be ready to have fun.”
Leising goes on to talk about the highly anticipated football game against Guerin Catholic. “The whole Spirit Committee wants to see the student section full. The USA theme is back because it was so popular last year.”
The Homecoming dance is also something to look forward to. It is planned by the members of Sophomore Student Council, and this year’s theme is “Under the Stars”.
The dance is on September 13th from 8 to 10:30. Students should expect snacks, great music, photo ops, and a great time. The Student Council wants as many people to come to the dance as possible.
Jenna Sutton is a science teacher at Brebeuf and is the advisor for Homecoming Dance planning. She shares these sentiments, “Embrace the idea of the dance. Show up and have fun, make memories.” Sutton also goes on to say that all of the proceeds from the dance are allocated to next year’s Prom fund.
The dance is a great opportunity to spend time with friends, take countless photos, and make memories that define the high school experience.
