Ever since Muslims of the World opened their first location on 38th Street in 2021, the coffee shop chain has been a go-to spot for teens all around Indiana. MOTW currently has cafés open in Fishers, Carmel, and Indianapolis, with out-of-state locations in Illinois, Connecticut, and Texas. Having gained traction for helping popularize Middle Eastern delicacies like Yemeni chai and baklava while also offering more classic drinks, we visited MOTW to convince fellow Braves that the coffee shop is worth a visit.
MOTW offers various items all year round, such as their Café Miel and fruit based refreshers, but occasionally debut some limited edition drinks as part of their seasonal menus. I ordered the Sparkling Blizzard, a refresher from the Winter Menu. According to the café’s Instagram (@motw.coffee) the drink is described as a “A refreshing mix of blue raspberry and coconut syrups with green tea and sparkling lemonade.” My opinions on the drink are mostly positive. The bright turquoise color of the drink alone makes it a unique addition to the seasonal menu, and one I would reorder if I returned.
I found it to taste mostly of blue raspberry, unfortunately with little coconut flavor. That being said, the Sparkling Blizzard was a great pick-me-up with a sweet taste. Some of MOTW’s refreshers featuring the sparkling lemonade are dominated by the Sprite-like taste of the ingredient, but this drink was perfectly balanced with less carbonation. I would recommend opting for a medium size versus the large, as the bigger drink did taste slightly watered-down as my day went on. For refresher fans looking for a new fruity drink to try out, the Sparkling Blizzard is my go-to from the MOTW winter menu.
Off of their year-round menu we decided to try the strawberry hibiscus refresher. This refresher had a good balance of the strawberry and hibiscus flavors, with neither overpowering the other. The carbonation of the drink adds to the flavors and makes the drink more interesting. This drink, or one of MOTW’s other specialty refreshers, is a great option for people who aren’t in the mood for coffee, but still want a fun drink.
From their traditional coffee menu, we ordered the Brown Sugar Shaken Espresso. This drink is my go-to at MOTW that I get almost every time I go. The sweet brown sugar flavor complements the bitterness of the espresso, and it’s all tied together with cold foam on top. I usually get a medium, which lasts me a good amount of time and doesn’t feel watered down by the ice. I would highly recommend this drink for coffee lovers who want something with a little sweetness that doesn’t overpower the coffee flavor.
With a menu mixing Western flavors with Middle Eastern tastes, MOTW continues to prove that their refreshers and coffee are deserving of more attention. Their Carmel location is just fifteen minutes away from Brebeuf; we encourage all Braves to try out smaller, less popular cafés and expand their palettes.
